Vioxx

On September 30, 2004, the maker of Vioxx took the drug off the market because of significantly high risk of heart attack and stroke. Since then, thousands of lawsuits have been filed.

Vioxx was commonly prescribed for arthritis and pain. According to The Wall Street Journal, it may have led to more than 27,000 heart attacks and sudden cardiac deaths before it was pulled from the market. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has urged all Vioxx users to stop taking it immediately and talk to a doctor about alternative medications.
